Recently, China Energy Construction GeZhouBa Group and Indonesia’s PT. Laman Mining officially signed the EPC contract for Indonesia’s alumina refinery project, successfully breaking through the market in Indonesia’s large-scale metallurgical industry. The successful signing of the project is another important achievement of the Group’s active participation in the joint construction of “The Belt and Road” (The Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st- Century Maritime Silk Road), the practice of the coordinated “going global” of central enterprises, the acceleration of transformation and upgrading, and the promotion of the “going global” of non-electricity business.
The project is about 180 kilometers away from Pontianak City, West Kalimantan Province, Indonesia, and the main work content is to build a new alumina refinery with a production capacity of 2 million tons per year, with a contract duration of 33 months.
Indonesia is dominated by laterite bauxite, with a proven bauxite reserves of 1 billion tons, ranking sixth in the world, accounting for about 3.57% of the world’s total reserves, it is mainly distributed in western Kalimantan Island, Bangka Island and other areas. The West Kalimantan bauxite metallogenic belt is one of the most important bauxite producing areas in Southeast Asia. The bauxite deposits are large in scale and the ore quality is good. The content of Al2O3 is 45%-55%. In recent years, the Indonesian government has successively issued policies to encourage enterprises investing in mineral resources development to set up smelting plant in Indonesia by changing the way of only exporting resources, to keep more mineral processing links in Indonesia to increase the value added of ore products and provide more jobs.
Upon completion, the project will significantly improve the local infrastructure and industrialization level, significantly increase tax revenue, boost employment, and attached promote the development of bauxite mining, raw material supply, logistics and transportation, supporting services and other related industries in Indonesia.
